Education Maintenance Allowance (EMA)
Is a young person in your household wanting to carry on learning after 16 and would like to see if they are eligible for Education Maintenance Allowance (EMA)?
If a young person in your household is claiming EMA there are things you should know as a parent / carer. EMA does not affect any other household benefits. A young person can still be eligible for EMA and remain entitled to other benefits such as Child Tax Credit and Child Benefit. A young person can still work part time to supplement their income and claim EMA if they are eligible and are following eligible courses.
For further details on how to apply and how much you could get, visit the website, http://ema.direct.gov.uk/ema.html or call the freephone EMA helpline on 0808 101 6219 (Monday to Friday,
